Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
UNBIASED INCLUSION

We prioritize individual dignity and strive to promote a culture of inclusive excellence.

Advancing equity and enhancing wellness

VCU Health is committed to creating a community that recognizes and embraces diverse backgrounds, identities and experiences. In delivering care to our patients, we do so in a way that respects diversity and focuses on equity to ensure an optimal patient experience and achieve better health outcomes for all.

Advancing an inclusive culture

The Office of Inclusive Excellence ensures that our policies and practices are equitable and inclusive of people of all races, cultures, ethnicities, religions, abilities, sexual orientations and gender identities. We emphasize education by offering programs that give our team members and community a greater understanding of people who embody various dimensions of diversity.

Why work here?

A sense of mutual respect and mindfulness permeates our culture-in fact, it’s the key to our success.

Healing Not Hate

In 2021, we launched our Healing Not Hate platform. In return for the care we provide, we ask that our patients respect those with whom they come into contact, regardless of their race, culture, ethnicity, religion, ability, gender or sexual orientation. This platform was recognized as a best practice in health care during a Press Ganey presentation.

Inspiring inclusion online

Our DEI intranet site is an employee landing page for all diversity, equity and inclusion information. It includes a DEI tribute month calendar, helpful information and our DEI framework. The site has grown to include videos and other content recognizing and celebrating team members. In 2021, we won the national Ragan Award for creating an inclusive environment online and equipping our team members to further their DEI education.
